The forest had lay dormant since before humans had begun to record their history, the encroachment of humanity had been something it had allowed. It had once spanned hundreds of miles, but despite the pain it suffered, it had granted humans permission to take from it over and over again. It had believed that it was a necessary pain to suffer so it and the humans could co-exist. But with the Elder Tree being slain to make way for one of their factories, that merciful spirit the forest once held had shattered, as with its consciousness now slipping. It created a guardian.Light was created as a means to hold back humanity, an Apex Guardian who embodied the beliefs the forest had always wished to uphold. Despite its consciousness having faded, Light had been created to protect what remains. The forest and its inhabitants became his weapon. As he rose from a mass of twisting vines infused with the forest’s essence, He took the form of a Leshen, A forest spirit with a head made from the skull and antlers of a deer and a body entirely constructed from a combination of branches, twigs and roots. Almost taking on a somewhat human appearance from the neck down. At a quick glance, if not for the deer skull, he could even be mistaken for a human thanks to his attire which he had ‘liberated’ from the previous owner of the factory. The same owner who had disappeared several years after its initial opening. Forcing it to close down shortly after.Light’s mission had been completed, but still he remained. For while he had thwarted one threat brought on by humanity, it would only be a matter of time until they tried to take more. For years he resided within the forest, serving as its sole guardian while protecting the lives of the animals who resided there. He was alone, severed from the voice of the forest which he had so briefly heard upon his creation. The isolation only grew his hatred towards humanity.Seemingly aware of his growing hatred, Light’s body began to slowly respond with a way to keep the humans out of the forest for good. A green slime like sap had begun to seep from the sockets of the deer skull and his arms. At first, he had simply believed it to be sap corrupted by the energy which kept him alive, until a human he attacked for invading his forest ingested a small amount of the sap, causing them to meet a violent end.Initially after making this discovery, he had questioned how best to use it. This seemingly final gift from the forest which he had protected for so long. But in his deliberation, he realized the humans had granted him a gift too. While he avoided the factory, he knew that within there were vats, or at least that's what the humans had called them. Built to store large amounts of liquid, a scheme had begun forming in his mind. If one drop could kill a human, then what could a vat of it do?
